We all use soap,
most of us multiple times a day, and it can have a negative effect on our skin.
Commercially produced 'bath bars' have chemicals added for their deodorant
properties, ability to lather, preservatives, scents, and hardening elements. Most
of us can't even pronounce most of the ingredients on the label of a bar of
soap off the shelf! They are 'hot processed', meaning all of the ingredients
are mixed together, heated, then poured out into molds to harden. This is an
automated process producing thousands of bars at a time. We work and play hard,
so the world needs a lot of soap-but, there are alternatives to commercial bath
and beauty bars!
hand pours soaps with natural ingredients. And here is where everyone says
"But what about lye? Don't you have to use lye? Isn't lye a dangerous chemical?"
And the answer to both of those questions is yes. To make soap the old
fashioned way, you must use lye, and lye standing alone is a caustic chemical.
Lye, however, is the catalyst to a chemical reaction that hardens the bar of
soap. This is why our soaps are 'cured' for several weeks before being
available to our customers. During this cure the lye evaporates and the bars
produces 'cold processed' soap, and these natural soaps will have some variations
in color and texture from batch to batch, but you will certainly recognize your
favorites! Our bars are left in their mold shape, and when cut produce a 6 oz.
